Vision:
Before any dream comes to fruition, there's a precious period of time that's filled with research, vision-building, and encouragement. Prelude is a springboard for you during this budding stage.
Whether you're looking to beef up your home coffee setup, grow in your latte art and other barista skills, or even open a coffee shop, Prelude provides the guidance you need. Eventually, Prelude also aims to provide opportunities for clients to visit coffee farmers and be totally immersed in the magic of coffee.
Why:
Coffee is both a glue and a catalyst. When people sit together with cups of hot brew in their hand, both harmony and epiphanies seem more easy to come by. Therefore, we want to draw people to the table, creating a space where amity and ideas can percolate and grow. Coffee is also a deep source of inspiration: when you start to notice the astounding amount of both labor and craft that makes our daily beverage possible, it's hard not to be impressed.
Who We Are:
Josh and Kimberly met, you guessed it, at a coffee shop. The very first shop Kimberly worked at, Klatch Coffee in San Dimas, CA, was Josh's regular spot for about 10 years. Josh's love of coffee grew over time as a devoted customer; Kimberly was trained by Klatch and went on to work at a litany of shops around Southern California. In her years as a barista, manager, roaster's assistant, and wholesaler, she got to learn just about everything that goes on in a cafe: customer service, shop operations, production duties, and all the hard work that makes the world spin round. She also went to Central America a number of times to visit coffee farms and production sites, just to get even more into the nitty gritty.
Now, the couple and their two daughters get to bond over their love of the bitter beans by introducing others to behind the scenes of the craft. As an engineer, Josh contributes much of the systems organization and has some future ideas in the works. Kimberly takes front and center (as she is wont to do) and leads events and trainings.
